Title: Just Don't Go Near the Water
Author: Hazel Behrens
The call persists,
You feel it in your bones.
The marrow of your being
Vibrates with its command.
Heart trembles.
Panic arises.
Flee or fight?
Fatal indecision.
Just don't
Go near
The water.
A giant fish awaits
Swallowing your fear
Digesting misplaced pride
That whispers, "Who? Me?"
Until
Spit up on the shore
With nothing left
But to say
"Yes."
