I was at a breakfast with a bunch of men when someone mentioned the silent years between the Old Testament and the New, as if I was supposed to know about that. And I realized that I hadn’t thought about those silent years in a while. So here is a poem – a quick one – about silence and other stuff.

Title:  400 Years
Author:  Bob Freye

trapped between testaments
they waited in silence
for the sound
of a prophet’s voice

after so many years
they may have imagined
that God had forgotten
or just walked away

but centuries are a moment
and promises deferred
are not forgotten

they come in their time

and God always whispers
his quiet words
though we do not bother
to write them down
